I make this plea to my Republican friends who are supporting the Supreme Court negating the law created by its decision in Rowe v Wade. You fought an effective political war on this decision and you won.
Now many of you are Christians following Christ’s spiritual examples, they should give you a guide on how to fill in the void left by this overturn.
He admired a neighborly fellow who didn’t fit in religiously or racially, but funded Health Care for someone he didn’t know lying on the side of the road, all beat up and robbed. He didn’t even ask for his money back (Luke 10) My point is that He reached out to those in need and used this as an example about what it takes to be His follower.
He had a sympathetic thing for the poor in spirit; mourners, the meek; the hungry; thirsty and admired characteristics that would slow one down from a top management job at the Military-Industrial Complex: (Merciful, pure of heart; peace makers and those prosecuted for righteousness. [Matt 5]).
He took a pretty liberal view on crime and punishment…and discouraged righteous indignation. (John 8:1-11)
My point is that my Christian friends should follow Christ and aggressively seek remedies for those denied a legal abortion, and are unable to handle the burden of their pregnancy and support the needs of their child. It’s what Jesus would want you to do.
Imagine if Jesus was in your Church after this SC decision and you asked Him what he thought. Is there any question in your mind that He would expect his followers to reach out and provide medical care (like the Good Samaritan); food; shelter; needed nutrition; and any reasonable support for the mother and child.
I’m not talking about a rich person who can fly to Europe or elsewhere for an abortion. I’m talking about those who need the support of those who understand the examples given by Jesus.
Follow up with your victory overturning Roe v Wade with Jesus-like support of mothers and newborns who need it….medical care, shelter, education, and all other needs that can arise from forcing a woman or girl to give birth.
Ironically, doing the Jesus thing in this circumstance will help us out economically by adding chances for education, medical care, human support, decent housing etc….so, my Republican Christian friends, act like a Christian to fill the void you have created.
